You should do this SEO preparation before you update your blog.

The Template

After you build up your wordpress, you should choose a wordpress template, so you should choose a search engine friendly wordpress theme. there are two indicator you can judge:

First, the <h1> label, it is better that one <h1> label on one webpage.

Second, check whether the theme pass the W3C validator, choose a theme pass the W3C validator.

The Plugins

After choosed the template, you should choose the plugins. there are many cool wordpress plugins, but for the seo, I recommend this 4 plugins.

1. All in One SEO. A plugins help you write meta label for every post and page, I think every seoer know it.

2. WP KeywordLink. A plugins help you make interal links for wordpress, you can set the interal links eim at some keywords, when you post a article, it will add links to this keywords automatically. So convient and easy to use.

3.Google XML Sitemap. A plugins help you generate the XML sitemap for google and the other search engine like yahoo!,bing automaticlly when you update your post.

4.WP-easyarchives. This plugins can help us build the HTML sitemap, and it will generate the links automatically once you update your post.

URL

Change you dynamic URL to static on the permalinks options. It is better to contain your keyword in your URL.

Robots.txt

Write a robots.txt file to block the repetitive content, you can write it just as follow:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin
Disallow: /wp-content
Disallow: /wp-includes
Disallow: */trackback
Disallow: /*?replytocom=
Disallow: /*?*
Disallow: */feed*

301 redirection

Redirect your index URL to youname.com or www.yourname.com, keep one url for one page.

This is the preparation for the wordpress seo, if you want to get more traffic from search engine, you must make more links and keep to update.

If it is greater then 5 years it is even more powerful.

#5 Placement of Link on the Page (Zone)

Where the link is located on a page is also very important. The search engines have developed block level analysis techniques that basically allow them to break down a webpage into blocks. Certain blocks, or sections of the site carry more weight since they are more likely to be seen by visitors. Links that are hidden at the very bottom of a site carry less value then links embedded in text at the top of the site.

There is also the additional value of traffic. Links placed at the top of a site will get more clicks. While we do not sell links for direct traffic, we love direct traffic as a side-benefit.

Google has said the effect of PR is over-estimate by public for many times, however, everybody think PR is important, so PR is still very important now. PR is the most fundamental stadard of links quality, even though it can not make a big effect to  rank, because you don’t attach importance to PR, but maybe your partner do.

Google Index, Yahoo! Index

The quantity of webpage indexed by Google or Yahoo! is one important standard for a homepage link. To some extend, the quantity of index influenze your traffic. Besides, it also reveal that whether the Robot of Google is always go to your website and whether you are update usually.

Alexa Rank

Although Alexa Rank is not precise and some time make mistakes, but we can know how the quality of other’s website approximately.

The quatity of his outbound links

When you exchange links, you also should look how many outbound links in  his webpage. The more outbound links it is, the less weight you can gain from his links. Normally, all thing being equal, but if  his webpage is more than 40 outbound links, I will not exchange links with him.

Diversity and Relevance

In my opinion, diversity is important, but relevance is more important. That is to say, you should exchange most of links with the website that have the same topic to you. However, you also should exchange sereral links with a different topic to you.

Search his title in Google

Search the title of his webpage, if his website rank on the top, it prove that the weight of the webpage is normal, not punished by Google.

Search his keyword in Google

Searching his keyword in Google is to know whether his webiste is get a big weight from Google. If his keywords is rank on the top of Google, you can exchange links  with a good conscience even though his PR is lower than yours.

For example, if you are searching for “baseballs”, you might get links for Rawlings, MacGregor, Ussa, Easton, NFHS, and so forth. (See image below) If you do a search for snowboards (by the way… it’s April 30 and snowing here in Utah) you might get links for Burton, K2, Ride, Forum, and GNU.

I have now seen this on a few occasions and each time the listings tend to appear near the top of the results, just below the ppc paid listings. These “brand links” are not links to the sites of the brands, however, they are links to SERPs for queries that incorporate those brands into them. For example, clicking on “Burton” will take me to a page targeting the search query “burton snowboards”.

What this means for ecommerce SEO is a more important focus on optimizing and getting ranked for big for brands. In high school, we used Rawlings and Usssa baseballs. Until I did this search query this morning, I forgot that we used the Usssa balls. If I was going to purchase some baseballs, I would probably click on one of the two brands. If you were a dealer of Rawlings baseballs, optimized for Rawlings baseballs, and showed up high in the SERPs, you might have just got my business.

It is unclear whether these results have been rolled out on a mass scale or if they are just part of a limited test. However, many of the searches I performed this morning had the brand results. Also, no one really knows how to get your brand listed in these suggestions. It is assumed that it is related to how frequent theses brands are searched for in relation to their respective items.

I’ll tell you this, when I do keyword research going forward, I will be paying close attention to the associated brands with particular search queries to see if there are any “favored” brands that I can optimize for.

For our personal webmaster, we don’t know much technology such as PHP, CSS, how can we do the code optimize ? Don’t worry, we can make use of the open resourse systerm to make our website.  For example, use the wordpress, its program has been SEO friendly, all we need to do just find a beautiful and seo friendly template.

Content Building

Seach engine like original and high quality content. It means that you should update your website everyday. Try to generate more original and high quality content rather than a copy.

This is the five basical point to do a good seo for your website.
